- Our organizers secured a documented CONVENTIONAL STYLE protocol. We bave realized that GOD BLESSED our reunion because we have had an annual “May Reunion” for 55 years- WITH TWO YEARS NOT HOSTED DUE TO COVID! Yes, a cherished tradition HANDED DOWN FROM OUR ANCESTORS AND ORGANIZERS. DESCENDANTS of the following families' CLANS: LEATHA LOYD (LLOYD); MARTHA FORD; MAYBELL MAY JACKSON; DAN MAY SR, LAFAYETTE MAY; JENLAY MAY; MONROE MAY & LENELL MAY SR gather together every 4th Friday, Saturday and Sunday in June for our reunion! Our commitment to reconnect and celebrate stays stronger than ever.
Why was Quitman May’s (ALL DESCENDANT’S ROOT) mother given her last name, its meaning and why?
WHY GIVEN LAST NAME:
Lenell May was told that She was born, baptised in May and had a feudal sexual obligation during slavery; therefore, the last name “MAY” arose independently.
MEANING:
She was said to tell Quitman May that her last name comes from a Hebrew Biblical name meaning “GIFT OF GOD.
WHY:
She later earned the name because even in her slavery style life, she was “honorable and proud!”
